Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How does VOWordCounter differ from standard word counters?

Standard word counters typically count words as they are written. VOWordCounter is specifically designed for spoken word. It intelligently expands numbers (e.g., "100" to "one hundred"), currency ("$50" to "fifty dollars"), symbols ("&" to "and"), URLs, and more, based on your selected options. This gives you a "Processed Word Count" that more accurately reflects how long it will take to speak the script.

Can I customize which expansions are applied?

Absolutely! The "Options" panel on the right allows you to toggle various pre-processing rules and expansion types on or off. This gives you full control over how your script is processed to match your specific needs or a client's requirements.

Is my script data saved on your servers?

No, your script text is processed entirely within your browser. We do not store your script content on our servers. For your convenience, selected options and the input script text are temporarily saved in your browser's local storage, so if you refresh the page or come back later in the same session, your data might still be there. You can clear this by clicking the "Clear" button or clearing your browser's cache.

What types of scripts can I use with VOWordCounter?

You can use any text-based script. It's particularly useful for audiobooks, e-learning modules, radio and TV commercials, corporate narration, IVR prompts, podcast scripts, video game scripts, and any other content that will be spoken.

Is there a limit to the script length I can process?

While there's no hard-coded limit, extremely long texts (e.g., an entire novel pasted at once) might lead to slower processing times or unresponsiveness in some browsers due to the computational intensity of the expansions. For very long projects, we recommend processing them in manageable chunks, like chapters or large sections.

How is the "Processed Word Count" actually calculated?

The "Processed Word Count" is the number of words in your script *after* all the selected pre-processing rules and text expansions have been applied. For instance, if "$1,234.56" becomes "one thousand two hundred thirty-four dollars and fifty-six cents", that single written item contributes many words to the processed count. This count is designed to be a much better indicator of actual speaking time than a simple word count.
